A small tournament and some cash update
Monday, April 24th, 2006I took 2nd place in a tournament two weekends ago. Although it would’ve been much nicer to take 1st place (1k difference), but I can’t complain too much as I did out draw a few people when behind during the tournament. 1st was 2700 while 2nd was 1700. At heads up the guy was chopping my trees by playing extremely agressive. The player kind of reminded me of Lee Watkinsons or Hoyt Corkins. I knew that all I needed was a hand (not even a big hand) and I’ll double up. I was tryin to survive while he was stealing blinds and taking the pots from me on the flop, however I did manage to find a hand in time knocking his chips down. He was slightly ahead of me when I slow played my KK when he hit his top pair 8’s with a 4 kicker. He pushed all in on the turn and I called immediately. The river came an 8 and he took 1st place. If I won that hand, I think he’d be all in blind next hand. Oh well, I was actually really happy with the cash but my brother was “pissed” off as he could’ve gotten a bigger tip if it weren’t for that 8. LOL. I have been playing these smaller tournaments lately because of my focus in cash games. I usually like to load one of these tournaments up while playing cash games on weekends. I do try not to let it take away too much of my focus from the ring games though. On weekends however, I try to play the bigger tournaments with real prizes that can change my life.
My cash game has been going pretty well lately. I went through many bad beats in February and ended up making 50 the entire month. March was a just a little better than February, but I didn’t put in enough hours as I was trying to deal with all of the BS that came from Hollywood Poker. I made a switch from Full Tilt to Hollywood Poker for rakeback reasons and there was much I needed to deal with in terms of the bugs that came with HP, but all of that is okay now. March and February cash games are a blur to me as I didn’t really progress too much. It was quite depressing at first but I still told myself to manage my way through. This month April has been a little better and I am slowly moving myself up to play NL200. It’s much nicer to be able to surf through two levels; I can play 3 of the highest avg pots from both NL200 and NL100. Usually there are only like 3-5 games in each level that have high pot sizes averages on HP. And yes, HP is much looser than Full Tilt Poker. On FTP, you’ll find avg pot sizes in NL100 to be around 20-25, and you’ll be lucky see 28+. On HP poker, you’ll be guaranteed to find 30 tables. And don’t think it’s because it’s the 10 player tables at HP versus the 9 table players at FT. But I do worry that FTP software averages pot sizes differently from PokerRoom. So I use Pokertracker snf Pokerace to actually see the averages and yes, there is definitely a big difference. Also, I think the most important factor to consider is how I personally play against these players from these sites. And I honestly find the tables much much looser at Hollywood Poker/Pokerroom.
This entry has been lagging for a few days now, I was about to talk about how much i dislike professor77. I mean I don’t personally dislike him, but I’ll get into that in the next entry. Basically my views has changed incredibly recently in regards to the way the WSOP, WPT, and poker media on how they advertise poker.
